Manufacturing Engineer, Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma
Position Summary
As part of our Continuous Improvement team, the Industrial Engineer will analyze data and implement plans for production process optimization. Monitor the home-building production processes to seek new ways to maximize process efficiencies, eliminate waste and reduce employee fatigue and comply with all respective codes and company policies. Improve processes based on extensive time study data collection and analysis as well as aid automation projects, both as a team member and a team leader and interact with all stakeholders for a sustainable implementation.
Leverage a combination of experience in mechanical design, process improvement and monitoring, quality control, and develop management systems to resolve production problems or minimize costs by performing engineering assignments over a wide range of projects of varying complexity. Apply standard engineering techniques to assigned tasks and ensure that specific goals are met in terms of process efficiency.
- Review current home-manufacturing processes to make recommendations to improve production efficiencies by maximizing home production while balancing employee-workload for a better work-life balance of team members involved.
- Perform Mixed Model Assembly Line Balancing by applying continuous improvement, LEAN, and SIX SIGMA concepts to reduce the downtime and other non-value-added time of all workstations across 40 home-manufacturing facilities.
- Conduct time study analysis, and statistical work sampling to analyze the production process as well as employee performance using Tableau and custom-built data visualization applications.
- Develop software applications to improve data-analysis and reporting used by senior management for strategic operational planning, such as handling material shortages by optimizing regional consumptions.
- Conduct feasibility studies using Any Logic Simulation software on proposed changes to the manufacturing processes and develop cost estimates using concepts of Engineering Economics. The proposed changes can include implementing new construction materials and production equipment.
- Develop VBA (programming language) to program dashboards to visualize and improve Key Performance Indicators that monitor the manufacturing process at 40 home-manufacturing facilities.
- Lead a cross-functional team (IT, Facilities & Operations personnel) to develop quality assurance & defect-tracking initiatives (Clayton Gateway & Drive to Defect Free programs). These initiatives help home-manufacturing facilities produce defect-free homes by providing real-time defect data.
- Collaborate with manufacturing facility personnel (Production Manager, Process Improvement Coordinator) in troubleshooting & improving processes by leading monthly continuous improvement initiatives with all 40 facilities.
- Design equipment, fixtures, and jigs using AutoCAD software to improve assembly line efficiencies, product quality & ergonomics such as marking & cutting plumbing as well as electrical wire holes in the floor by using custom-designed reusable templates.
- Visit production facilities in-person to advise leadership (General Managers, Production Managers) on new opportunities using concepts developed by the Continuous Improvement Department to improve Manufacturing processes in the plant.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from a regionally accredited college or university and 2+ years’ relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required
- Advanced computer knowledge with AutoCAD, MS Office applications, Tableau, and other computer tools related to process improvement & data visualization.
- Experience with PLC/PAC and/or other computer programming languages & simulation software that aids in automation.
- Strong continuous improvement mentality and application of LEAN or SIX SIGMA manufacturing techniques/tools.
- Experience in applying Engineering Economic concepts to reduce operational costs.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software and Word processing software, other Microsoft Suite products.
- Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills…
