Required Experience: Apprentice – 4+ years of line work;
Journeyman – 5+ years of line work. Pre‑employment Fitness for Duty exam required.
Responsibilities: Under directive supervision, perform high and low voltage line work, maintain electric transmission, underground and distribution conductors, structures and equipment. Key tasks include:
- Use hot line tools.
- Work on all types of conductors.
- Install transformer installations, make tap changes, and install primary metering equipment.
- Locate trouble and restore service on all classes of lines, substations, sectionalizing equipment, etc.
- Make underground and submarine cable installations, jointing, and pothead installation.
- Install pole type regulators and transformers.
- Phase and check rotation on circuits.
- Make field tests of distribution transformers.
- Check for ground faults on circuits or equipment.
- Erect and maintain steel towers and substations.
- Direct work of assistants, instruct and train other employees.
- Plan and lay out work safely and efficiently (Journeyman).
- Prepare reports and records, handle materials, and act in leadership capacity when required (Journeyman).
- Traverse uneven terrain, wet, muddy, or slippery surfaces while carrying tools up to 50 lbs.
- Work in extreme heat and cold, confined spaces, and alone for restoration services.
- Perform physical tasks such as digging, pulling, pushing, carrying, and lifting up to 115 lbs.
- Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
- Operate trucks, heavy equipment, and work safely around energized lines.
- Work at heights for extended periods, from bucket trucks on energized overhead lines.
- Climb structures, poles, ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, grip, and feel.
- Perform emergency rescue operations, including lowering injured coworkers from height.
- Exercise sound judgment for safe work in hazardous environments.
- Follow safety rules and wear required personal protective equipment.
- Work up to 16 continuous hours per day and work overtime when necessary.
- Conduct basic computer tasks such as time entry, email, training, and reporting.
- Communicate effectively within the team.
- Manage stress and handle tense situations.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Willing and able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Alert to hazards, participate in safety meetings.
- Work under unusual surroundings and normal conditions for this job.
- Receive and transmit orders; inspire respect and confidence of superiors and subordinates.
- Maintain neat, clean, and orderly work and personal appearance.
- Meet the public in a pleasant and tactful manner.
- Provide first‑class courteous service to all customers.
