JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction and supervision of the Animal Shelter Manager, the Veterinary Technician will support the veterinarian on duty in ensuring quality veterinary care for all animals and ensures a safe and effective hospital and kennel environment.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent with three years of working experience.
- Licensed Veterinary Technician preferred.
- Complete an accredited or recognized course in veterinary assisting or technology.
- Graduation from an AVMA accredited veterinary technician/technology program preferred.
- Maintain Continuing Education requirements of credentialing.
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License or higher and good driving record.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of CAS partners and the products/services they offer.
- Knowledge of CAS policies and protocols, such as but not limited to, admitting, adoptions, cleaning, and medical protocols.
- Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, animal handling and behavior.
- Ability to handle animals safely with patience and gentleness.
- Ability to represent the CAS in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff.
- Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within the CAS with volunteers and the public, and to be a team player.
- Must be patient, courteous, and work well under stressful conditions.
- Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and electronic form.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.
- Ability to work unscheduled hours.
The work is heavy. Must be able to safely lift 50 pounds and carry, push and pull heavy objects with or without assistance. Requires ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally with assistance, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force consistently to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
