Part-Time Animal Shelter Kennel Technician

Apply to the City of Conroe's Part‑Time Animal Shelter Kennel Technician position.

The Kennel Technician will maintain a clean and sanitary City of Conroe Animal Shelter facility and will provide food and water to the animals in the shelter. The Kennel Technician will assist with other daily operations as directed.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior experience working with an Animal Shelter or Animal Clinic is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must possess a valid Texas class "C" driver s license or higher.
• Must be able to communicate with the public in a professional manner at all times.
• Must be able to read and write; basic math skills are required.
• Must be able to work around animals for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to work emergency and on‑call hours.
• Must be able to work weekends.
• Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.

Background Checks:

Must pass background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening as a condition of employment. A motor vehicle record check and job‑related doctor s physical exam may also be required. Must pass FBI Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) fingerprint‑based criminal background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.

The work is heavy and requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally with assistance, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force consistently to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
