Ameritex is seeking a motivated team member to join our fabrication team as a Weld Helper Level 2 – Welding Apprentice. This position expands upon general labor duties by supporting welders in prepping, grinding, fitting, and inspecting parts, creating a pathway to production welder roles. We are looking for people with hustle – individuals who work hard, stay busy, and take initiative without waiting to be told.
CoreResponsibilities
- Assist welders with part prep, including grinding, beveling, and cleaning surfaces.
- Grind welds smooth and prepare assemblies for finishing or further fabrication.
- Fit parts and hold assemblies in place under welder supervision.
- Perform basic inspections of welded parts for quality (beads, spatter, penetration).
- Organize and stage welding jobs with correct fixtures and hardware.
- Help maintain welding consumables and shop supplies.
- Communicate with welders and supervisors to ensure steady workflow.
- Must follow all safety rules, including required PPE for the work area, and be able to safely lift 50+ lbs repeatedly.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong interest in welding/fabrication.
- Ability to read a tape measure and follow simple drawings.
- Basic knowledge of grinders, hand tools, and weld prep processes.
- Safety focus in hot, high-spark environments.
- 6–12 months of proven performance in welding support tasks.
- Completion of training milestones in part prep, grinding, and inspection.
- Eligibility to move into Welder Level 1 (entry-level production welder role).
Compensation: $17–$19/hr
