The IT Infrastructure Supervisor oversees the design, implementation, operation, and advanced support of the Citywide LAN/WAN, server infrastructure, and related systems across more than 30 facilities. This role has organization‑wide impact and requires a strong understanding of City operations and infrastructure dependencies. The position supervises and mentors IT staff, coordinates infrastructure and related projects, and ensures systems are reliable, scalable, and aligned with security and business continuity requirements.

The supervisor works closely with other IT leaders and external vendors to plan and implement changes that support operational needs while minimizing risk and service disruption. This position both monitors and, at times, performs all the duties of the Infrastructure team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, and/or four to six years of directly related experience. Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and experience will be considered.
  • Experience leading or supervising enterprise infrastructure projects involving network and systems design, coordination, and implementation across distributed locations preferred.
Special Requirements
  • Preferred certifications include CCNA, ITIL, Linux certifications (LPI), CompTIA Security+, Network+ or equivalent.
  • Must be able to pass an FBI criminal background fingerprint check and comply with all state and federal criminal justice information security requirements.
  • Must be able to respond to on‑call and emergency after‑hours incidents.

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to supervise IT staff workloads, coordinate resources, and lead teams effectively.
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and enforce IT infrastructure documentation standards, including procedures, processes, system configurations, and network and data center diagrams.
  • Strong leadership, decision‑making, and supervisory skills, including the ability to assign workloads, coordinate resources, mentor staff, and lead teams effectively.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally‑verbally and in writing‑with IT staff, City leadership, vendors, and the public.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously while consistently meeting quality and timeliness expectations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or collaboratively as part of a team, maintaining a high‑quality work product.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills to resolve complex infrastructure and system issues accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build professional relationships, exercise sound judgment, and serve City departments with diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Extensive knowledge of enterprise network and server infrastructure design, implementation, operation, and maintenance, including LAN/WAN, routing and switching, wireless technologies, and TCP/IP.
  • Experience with enterprise technologies and practices, including firewalls, ACLs, VPNs, IDS/IPS, SIEM, EDR, endpoint protection, encryption, proxy services, switches and firewalls.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft enterprise technologies, including Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft server and cloud systems, and related system platforms.
  • Experience with virtualization and storage technologies, including VMware, SANs, backup solutions, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity strategies.
  • Experience supporting data center environments, including servers, storage, networking, power systems, and monitoring platforms.
  • Ability to administer enterprise monitoring systems and event logs to ensure infrastructure performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Experience with access control systems, proximity badge readers, and associated management software.
  • Knowledge of scripting and automation tools such as Power Shell, Python, Bash, or similar technologies to improve efficiency and reliability.
