The Department of Physical Therapy invites applications for a 12-month full-time non‑tenure track faculty position at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor for our pre‑accreditation status Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. The core faculty position will require teaching, advisement, scholarship, and service responsibilities. The position provides administrative support for both full‑time and part‑time clinical education as needed by the program.

- Degree Requirements: Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). A terminal academic doctoral degree (PhD, DSc, ScD, EdD, or equivalent) is preferred. Active, unencumbered PT license in any United States jurisdiction and compliance with the practice act in Texas.
- Experience Requirements: Full‑time post‑licensure clinical practice experience with demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of physical therapy practice. Evidence of teaching ability and commitment to physical therapy education.

Other Requirements For The PositionPreferred Qualifications
American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS) certification in Orthopedics, Sports, Geriatrics, Pediatrics, Cardiovascular and Pulmonary, Clinical Electrophysiology, Oncology, or Women’s Health. Previous experience teaching in a physical therapist education program. Experience with curriculum development and assessment. Evidence of professional development activities and continuing education. Knowledge of physical therapy accreditation standards and educational best practices. Experience with clinical research or evidence‑based practice initiatives.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Strong motivation to drive students’ clinical success through collaborative and personalized resource management.

LocationThe proposed Doctor of Physical Therapy Program will be housed in Conroe, Texas on SHSU’s Medical and Health Professions Campus, and will matriculate students in August 2027. In 2021, SHSU received tuition revenue bond funding to build an 80,000 square foot Health Professions Building. The new building is now complete and operational, housing four academic programs including the MS in Athletic Training, MS in Dietetics, MS in Physician Assistant (proposed), and Doctor of Physical Therapy (proposed).
Conroe, Texas is in Montgomery County about 40 miles north of Houston, the 4th largest city in the U.S. The Houston Medical Center, located near downtown Houston, is the world’s largest medical complex. The SHSU Medical and Health Professions campus is approximately 10 miles north of the Medical Center of the north. Also located on this campus is SHSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.
