Director of Finance

Montgomery County Food Bank

HOURS: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday‑Friday (after hours and weekends as needed).

Position Summary

Lead, manage, and oversee the Financial and Accounting function at Montgomery County Food Bank. Serve on the Food Bank leadership team (CEO and direct reports) representing finance to develop and execute strategy, provide financial support and insights to enable the Executive Leadership Team to make critical business decisions that ensure compliance. Maintain and provide financial and operational data and information about all company activities that will assist Management, the Board of Directors, and other users in making educated economic decisions about the organization’s future.

Accountable for leading and managing the organization’s financial and accounting policies, systems and processes, tax and regulatory requirements, and producing and maintaining the annual budget.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage and facilitate activities of the organization’s accounting function to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports, including internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits, and budgets, and communicate regularly with the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Partner with the executive leadership team to align finance strategies with the organization’s mission, goals, and operational needs.
Financial Management & Reporting
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements, budget‑to‑actual analysis, and cash‑flow forecasts.
  • Manage month‑end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and work papers.
  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition in compliance with FASB ASC Topic 958.
  • Prepare Net Asset Roll Forward schedule and month‑end analysis memo.
  • Attend and participate in the Finance Committee meetings to present financial reports.
Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Lead annual budget preparation in collaboration with leadership.
  • Monitor and review budget variances.
  • Support strategic financial planning and forecasting.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
  • Manage and approve invoices for payment and maintain vendor files (including W‑9 compliance).
  • Review A/P and A/R aging reports.
  • Manage GL coding and reconcile bank and credit‑card accounts.
Payroll Administration
  • Approve payroll payments.
  • Review quarterly payroll reconciliations between GL and payroll system.
Compliance & Audit
  • Manage Prepared By Client (PBC) schedules for annual audit and Form 990.
  • Manage timely preparation and review of annual 1099s.
  • Maintain internal controls and update policies and procedures.
Grant & Fund Management
  • Review grants for restrictions, reporting requirements, and deadlines.
  • Ensure accurate reporting and revenue recognition for restricted and unrestricted grants.
  • Assist with grant applications and fund reports.
Fixed Assets & Inventory
  • Manage and review Fixed Asset Schedule.
  • Oversee inventory accounting and related journal entries.
Relationships
  • Work productively and collaboratively with the MCFB Leadership Team and all departments within the organization.
  • Manage, supervise, train and develop the Finance Team.
  • Educate key staff within the organization on good financial management and best practice.
Other
  • Assist and report MCFB Disaster Recovery Efforts.
  • Participate in a variety of special projects and compile special reports.
  • Other duties assigned by the Leadership Team.
