Job Summary / Purpose

All members of Entergy’s safety function will be expected to own safety, work to prevent incidents and seek to improve with the understanding that zero harm is possible. This position is tasked with examining the workplace/worksite for environmental or physical factors that could affect employee and/or contract partner health, safety, comfort, and performance. Ensuring the workplace/worksite is as safe as possible is accomplished through conducting risk assessments, safety analyses, job site reviews, and coaching.

The senior and lead safety specialists will be expected to show leadership and mentorship capabilities with Entergy’s employees and contract partners. Supports Utility Operations in the management of developing safety training programs, strategy, presentations, workshops, communications, policy, and rules as needed. This is a field‑first role with the expectation that 80% of the time is spent in the field engaged with the frontline workforce.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Supports the contract workforce, including investigating contractor incidents and safety-related issues on Entergy’s system, performing field observations to assure compliance with OSHA regulations and Entergy safety rules and procedures, and assisting contractors with acknowledging Entergy’s safety rules and procedures.
  • Conducts and assists with training as necessary to ensure applicable rules, procedures, and expectations are understood.
  • Conducts engagements and observations with employees and contract partners, providing immediate coaching on safe and unsafe conditions observed.
  • Leads and plans field and site engagements, documents deficiencies, and develops sustainable solutions to prevent repeat findings.
  • Assists in the incident investigation process, including root‑cause analysis and identification of corrective actions.
  • Sets and reinforces safe‑work expectations in accordance with applicable laws, rules, procedures, and expectations.
  • Reviews safety‑related data and metrics to identify trends and recommends corrective actions to address any issues identified.
  • Stops work if there is any unsafe condition.
  • Provides mentoring to other safety professionals.
  • Familiar with and interprets OSHA regulations and provides guidance to management on the proper application of these regulations in the workplace.
  • Subject to mandatory pre‑employment and random drug testing as the position is Safety Sensitive.
Minimum Education

High School / GED. (Any level degree preferred for Safety Specialist III or Senior.)

Minimum Experience
  • Safety Specialist III: 4‑6 years of electrical industry experience with a minimum of 2 years in safety.
  • Safety Specialist Senior: 6‑10 years of electrical industry experience with a minimum of 3 years in safety.
Desired Experience / Qualifications
  • 7‑10 years of Electrical Distribution Line experience.
  • 7‑10 years of Electrical Transmission Line experience.
  • 7‑10 years of Electrical Substation experience.
  • 2‑5 years of Leadership experience.
Certificates / Licenses
  • Safety Specialist III: COSS/COSM/CHST/OHST or equivalent.
  • Safety Specialist Senior: ASP/CUSP/OSHA
    500 or equivalent.
Other Requirements
  • Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities related to construction and general industry safety for electrical utility regulations.
  • Ability to observe, coach, and engage with employees and contract partners during all tasks associated with high/low voltage electrical construction, maintenance, and restoration.
  • Investigation/RCA skills using tools such as Tap Root, Cause Mapping, Fishbone, Five Whys.
  • Proficient in analyzing and interpreting data to identify trends.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact effectively with all levels of employees.
  • Strong understanding of cover‑up rules and PPE requirements with a strong background in energized high‑voltage electrical construction.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities.
  • Radical candor, approachable, vocal, and a questioning attitude.
