Schedule: 7:30am-4:00pm

Facility location: Chester, CT

Summary: The Repair Department is a part of Whelen's Customer Service Department. The Shipper/Receiver plays an important role in the service department. When products are sent in, they will open the boxes of the products and enter the information into the Repair processing system to create the service tickets used to track the product as it moves though the department. After the technicians have completed the repair/replacement of the product the Shipper/Receiver will then gather the product, pack it into the proper shipping carton and create a label for shipping the item back to the customer.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • On a daily basis transport products that have been sent in for service from the loading dock to the Service Department. Sort, open and document box contents.
  • Enter data into the Whelen Service Ticket Program. Attach Service Tickets on items to be serviced.
  • Print out, via the Repair Processing Program, packing slips. Match packing slip data with the Service Ticket data and remove the product from the shipping shelves.
  • Arrange packing slips and product to be shipped on the shipping table.
  • Box up product that will be returned to the customer.
  • Enter data into the UPS World Ship program to produce shipping labels. Attach shipping label to shipping box(es) and place on transport cart.
  • Transport and load contents of the shipping cart onto the UPS trailer.
  • Deliver packages that were received in the warehouse.
  • Receiving products in for service.
  • Documenting the items and entering customer information into the service ticket program.
  • Matching invoices to product that is ready to be returned.
  • Packaging up product for return to minimize damage.
  • Creating packing slips using UPS program.
  • Deliver packages to shipping department.
  • Picking up packages/mail from the USPS Post Office.
Requirements
  • Attention to details is a must.
  • Be a team player.
  • Ability to accurately and speedily enter data into the Whelen and UPS database.
  • Abide by and support all supervisory and management decisions.
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arm length, stoop, kneel and crouch.
  • Ability to quickly change from one job to the next and work in a team environment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to facilitate safety and service functions.
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Whelen reserves the right to move personnel from department to department or inter-department when the workload requires additional help.
Physical demands and abilities
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally up to 45 pounds.
  • Ability to use hands in the handling and packaging of products.
  • Ability to work with hand tools, battery operated tools, automatic tape machines and drill press.
  • Ability to push and pull shipping carts.
  • Ability to climb stairs

Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and third parties. This ability to communicate requires the employee to be conversant in English as the majority of our workforce and the third parties that we encounter only speak English.
