IntroductionUConn’s Facilities Operations Department has two job openings for Power Distribution Electrician positions at the Storrs Campus. The positions are permanent, full-time, 37.5 hours/week. The work schedule will be determined by seniority and discussed during the interview.
These positions are only open to current UConn NP-2 QCW Electricians that have completed the training requirements of the Power Distribution Electrician job classification. Current QCW Electrical employees who meet all minimum qualifications and special requirements will be considered for an interview. Eligibility requires two years of training with energized voltage over 600 volts, successful completion of Eversource ESOP 100 high voltage training, and an active E-1 or E-2 license.
The hourly rate will be determined based on the employee’s current Step of the Pay Plan.
These positions are categorized as Emergency Support Services/Essential Staff. Mandatory availability to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or significant events is required. Applicants may be asked to respond to emergencies on overtime (nights, weekends, holidays) and to work scheduled shutdowns. NP-2 employees may be required to perform duties at any Regional Campus.
Selection PlanOpen to Agency Only. Current, qualified UConn NP-2 QCW Electricians and other qualified NP-2 employees will be considered. Applicants must possess and retain a current motor vehicle operator license. A current Connecticut E-1 or E-2 license is required, along with Eversource ESOP 100 high voltage certification and must be retained throughout employment.

- Performs highly skilled and specialized installation, maintenance and repair work to equipment and machinery used in a power distribution system.
- Installs, maintains and repairs electrical components of overhead and underground power distribution systems, including metering systems, circuit breakers, transformers, switchboards, controls, insulators and related wiring.
- Uses specialized electrical and computerized equipment to diagnose and repair power plant electrical generation performance (e.g., infrared imaging, meters, voltmeters, ammeters, monitoring software).
- Interprets electrical drawings, diagrams and schematics and performs high voltage switching procedures.
