UConn’s Facilities Operations Department has one job opening for Electronic Integrated Control Systems Technician (Building Subsystems) at the Storrs Campus. The EICS Technician (BS) position is a permanent, full-time position reporting to a Maintenance Supervisor 1. The work schedule is 2nd Shift, Monday – Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. with an unpaid half‑hour for lunch.

This position is categorized Services/Essential Staff. Applicants must be willing and able to work during emergency closures/delayed openings due to inclement weather or significant events that affect campus operations, and respond to emergencies on overtime (nights, weekends, and holidays). The position may also require participation in the weekly on‑call rotation schedule; if assigned, the cell phone must be carried and calls responded to within 15 minutes.
Facilities Operations NP‑2 employees may be required to perform job duties at any of the Regional Campuses.
Selection PlanThis position is open to the public; current, qualified UConn NP‑2 employees receive preference. A valid motor vehicle operator license is required throughout employment.
ResponsibilitiesPerform a full range of tasks involving electronic controls for building energy, environmental, and mechanical systems, including programming of Energy Management and Building Monitoring Systems; testing, repair, and calibration of controls, meters, and logic circuits for computer controller electronic, pneumatic, and electric equipment. Duties include installation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, calibration, testing, and repair of all types of control equipment associated with building systems, such as alarms, electronic equipment with transducers, relays, circuit boards, integrated circuits, and microprocessor units.
Perform diagnostic tasks on electric motors (110, 220, or 440 V), small transformers, regulators, motor drives, pneumatic controls, solenoid valves, and sensing devices. Program changes in computer systems that control lighting, energy consumption, and operation of building environmental systems, install new field sensors and controllers, and make appropriate repairs. Monitor and control through specialized central control system software automated building subsystems to ensure equipment operates at desired set points for maximum efficiency and performance;
observe system problems, make adjustments, respond to system alarms, analyze control system schematic diagrams, and contact appropriate trade workers or vendors as needed. Perform repairs of electronic control boxes, install programmable logic controllers and networked logic controllers, and reload controllers on site using laptops or central office workstations. Reconfigure and program network controllers to enable control boxes to transmit data to Process Information software and/or servers.
Program newly installed controllers using vendor programming languages. Track, compile, and analyze current and historical usage and performance data reports; retro‑commission by determining building user requirements of subsystems, and ensure programmable logic controllers are installed, programmed, and operating adequately. Calibrate utility meters; provide analytical assistance to specialty trade workers or vendors on installation or repair of system or building equipment.
Diagnose and make system adjustments from a remote location; install and set up routers, switches, and hubs to interface with controllers; develop and maintain building environmental control user websites; troubleshoot central office servers; perform retrofit or upgrades to control systems; perform limited duties related to industrial controls; perform related duties as required.
