The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care that is guided by the American Nurses Association scope of practice. A Registered Nurse collaborates with patients, family or significant others, peers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the delivery of healthcare services. The Registered Nurse assesses the patient’s needs, develops and implements care plans, and evaluates the medical and nursing regimens in accordance with the hospital’s philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

- Completes patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated
- Documents detailed information incorporating the plan of care, interventions and outcomes reflecting the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional status
- Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care the patient is receiving to include transfer or discharge documentation as indicated
- Follows the five Rights of Medication Administration, verbalizes medications to patients or families, assesses patients prior to administering medications, noting allergies, parameters, potential side effects, effectiveness and intervening as needed, and reassesses and documents response according to policy
- Coordinates and supervises the delivery of nursing care, including the delegation of tasks, maintaining accountability for delegated care
- Promotes a culture of safety by assessing patients for potential safety risks, adhering to hospital policies for patient safety, initiating interventions related to identified risk factors, conducting bedside shift reports and rounds, documenting the application of the nursing process, and ensuring proper patient hand‑off when leaving for breaks
- Assesses learning needs of patients or families, plans and provides appropriate instruction using applicable teaching methods, and documents response to teaching
- Cares for specific patient populations as necessary
- Delivers patient‑centered care by embracing the cultural diversity of patients and team members, respecting the dignity of all individuals, and maintaining open lines of communication inclusive of active listening
- Meets accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities related to the position
- Promotes a culture of learning and growth by seeking experiences and formal and independent learning activities, and mentoring others
- Performs other duties as assigned within the state nursing scope of practice

- New graduates awaiting licensure at the discretion of the Chief Nursing Officer (CT only)
