Mechanical Engineer – Machine & Tool Design (Manufacturing)
Location:
North Windham, CT | Main Manufacturing Facility. United Abrasives, Inc. / SAIT is seeking a hands‑on Mechanical Engineer to support machine, tool, and equipment design at our North Windham, Connecticut manufacturing facility. This position plays a key role in supporting our U.S.‑based manufacturing operations by designing, modifying, and improving production equipment used in the manufacture of high‑quality abrasive products.
- Design and modify production machinery, tooling, and manufacturing equipment.
- Support fabrication, machining, and assembly of large‑scale production equipment.
- Work closely with fabrication and facilities personnel to ensure designs are practical, safe, and manufacturable.
- Manage parts procurement and assist with inventory control for engineering projects.
- Create, maintain, and update mechanical drawings and documentation for machining and assembly.
- Apply sound machining and manufacturing principles in the design of mechanical components.
- Support equipment improvements and manufacturing efficiency initiatives.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial mechanical design and manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of tool design and part machining techniques.
- Working knowledge of metallurgy and material selection.
- Strong 3D CAD design skills required;
Key Creator experience is a plus. - Proven ability to take a concept from initial design through fabrication and implementation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, including root cause analysis.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to read and troubleshoot electric, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems is a plus.
- Self‑directed, reliable, and willing to learn new skills in a manufacturing‑focused environment.
