Location: Westfield

Per Diem Shift

Saturday and Sunday 12:00pm-5:00pm

Pay Range

$18.00-$20.00 per hour based on experience and mileage reimbursement.

ROLE

The Mobile Phlebotomist, under the general supervision of the Phlebotomy Supervisor, works to provide clinical pre‑analytical laboratory services to our clients/patients in a mobile setting. They are responsible for completing their assigned routes safely and timely, following all policies and procedures.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Drive the vehicle to client facilities, typically nursing homes, as directed by the dispatcher.
  • Unload the phlebotomy tray and collect samples at the patient’s bedside, following the order set by the physician.
  • Accurately identify each patient before collecting specimens.
  • Accurately collect, label, process, and deliver specimens to the lab.
  • Reload equipment and necessary specimens into the vehicle for prompt delivery.
  • Communicate regularly with the dispatcher to report status and location.
  • Follow Universal Precautions to control blood‑borne pathogens and infectious disease exposures.
  • Maintain required certifications and meet all health and operational requirements.
  • Keep the work area clean and maintain proper safety precautions at all times.
  • Report any unsafe conditions, complaints, or problems encountered.
  • Monitor supply inventory and report low stock or out‑of‑stock situations, including expired supplies.
  • Report to work promptly, properly groomed, wearing the proper identification when visiting a facility.
  • Maintain accurate time records of hours worked.
  • Manage shift to include meal breaks and follow all specimen preservation, patient preparation, and specimen management procedures.
  • Adhere to current approved documents and records management as directed.
  • Be available for on‑call evenings and weekends and for irregular unscheduled overtime as needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Excellent communication and interaction skills with pediatric and geriatric populations.
  • Respectful and discreet treatment of customers and patients, honoring residents’ rights and patient refusal.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Current, valid State phlebotomy license (if required).
  • Current, valid State driver’s license, good driving record, vehicle in good working condition suitable for daily driving.
  • Proficient venipuncture and skin puncture using vacutainer and syringe techniques.
  • Knowledge of laboratory operations.
  • Maintenance of sterile, sanitary conditions to prevent contamination.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Employees may walk, stand, pick up or handle objects, touch, talk, hear, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and may lift or move up to 35 pounds on occasion. Close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus are required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work may involve all weather and driving conditions. Employees operate in a laboratory environment with potential health hazards. Proper use of personal protective equipment is required. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities.
