The Substitute 6th Grade Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, engaging instruction and managing the classroom environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role requires the ability to quickly establish rapport with students, maintain continuity of learning, and adhere to the policies and procedures of the school.

Instruction and Learning:

Implement lesson plans, instructions, and materials provided by the absent teacher in a manner that maximizes student learning time.

Present subject matter (e.g., Math, Science, English Language Arts, Social Studies) using a variety of instructional techniques that meet the diverse needs of 6th-grade students.

Motivate students to participate and maintain focus on learning objectives.

Document and report any material not covered, challenges encountered, or necessary follow-up for the returning teacher.

Classroom Management:

Maintain a positive, safe, and orderly classroom environment conducive to learning, strictly following the school's behavior policies.

Take attendance and complete all required administrative tasks accurately and on time.

Supervise students during non‑instructional times, including lunch, recess, hallway transitions, or during assigned study halls, as required.

Professional Conduct:

Adhere to all school and district policies, regulations, and ethical guidelines.

Maintain the confidentiality of all student and school information.

Collaborate professionally and courteously with fellow staff members, including administrators and support personnel.

Certification: Valid New York State Teaching Certificate

Experience: Prior experience working with children or adolescents, preferably in a classroom or supervisory setting.

Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.

Experience teaching at the middle school level (grades 6-8).

Familiarity with Google Classroom and classroom technology.

Schedule: 7:40am - 3:05pm following school calendar

Compensation:
RETIRED ACS TEACHER $160.00 per day
CERTIFIED $140.00 per day
LESSON PLANNING (assigned by Principal) $50.00 per day in addition to daily rate
