Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring at least 18 months of recent med/tele experience and a compact or NC RN license.
Responsibilities- Work in a 10-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a trauma level III teaching hospital
- Average daily census is 8 patients
- Patient population includes those with chest pain, syncope, and angina
- RN to patient ratio is 1:5; CNA to patient ratio is 1:10
- Utilizes Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
- Night shift position (7p-7a) with every other weekend rotation
- Travelers are required to work 75% of holidays
- Floating required within specified region and within scope of practice, including payment for mid-shift travel time
- Two-day departmental orientation provided in addition to facility orientation
- Navy scrubs required
- Support available from supervisor, charge RN, resource RN, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy, and hospitalist, though not all are dedicated solely to the unit
- Collaborative team environment with unit engagement in activities such as book and Netflix clubs
- Role includes responsibility for admissions, discharges, and phlebotomy in conjunction with IV team
- Free employee parking provided
- Permanent address must be at least 50 miles from home unit to be eligible
- First-time travelers may be considered but are not preferred
- Up to 6 days of time off can be approved, excluding holidays, with requirements for contract hours to be met
- Active NC or compact RN license
- Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required
- Current BLS, ACLS certifications required; NIHSS required for Resource Team
- Competency in stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, peripheral IV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain and tube management, and PCA pump use
- Ability to manage medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
- Experience using Epic EMR preferred
