Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience and a NC or compact license.

• Work in a 10-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a teaching hospital and Level III Trauma Center
• Average daily census of 8 patients with a patient ratio of 1 RN to 5 patients
• Primary patient population includes those with chest pain, syncope, and angina
• Required to work 12-hour day shifts ) with every other weekend rotation
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays
• No call or call back requirements
• Floating required within Region 1 facilities according to patient needs and within scope of practice
• EMR system used is EPIC; experience is required
• Unit utilizes Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing system
• Responsibilities include admissions, discharges, and management of a variety of cardiac and medical patients
• Support available from supervisor, charge RN, resource RN, IV/VAT team, and 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist teams
• Unit fosters a supportive environment with team activities such as book and Netflix clubs
• Two-day departmental orientation provided in addition to facility orientation
• Scrub color is navy
• Free employee parking is available
• Up to 6 days of time off can be approved, excluding holidays, with required hours to be made up at the end of contract if needed
• First-time travelers will be considered but preferred candidates have travel experience

• Active NC or compact RN license
• Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Tele RN experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS required for resource team
• General Med/Tele skills including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management, and PCA pump usage
• Experience with cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and infusion therapy
• Experience with EPIC charting system required
• Must live at least 50 miles from home unit to qualify for traveler position
