Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Tele RN with at least 18 months of recent experience and a NC or compact RN license for a teaching hospital environment.

• Work in a 28-bed Med/Surg Tele unit at a teaching hospital designated as Trauma Level III
• Care for post-surgical, orthopedic, spine, trauma, vascular surgery, and medical overflow patients
• Patient ratios typically 1:4-6, with surges up to 1:7-8
• Weekend rotation is every other weekend
• Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
• No call or on-call responsibilities
• Floating required within Region 1 to multiple facilities as needed and within scope of practice
• Uses Epic EMR, BD Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, and Phillips and Massimo monitors
• Schedule is based on 12-hour day shifts ), with a 6-week scheduling cycle
• Provide comprehensive post-surgical and medical care for a diverse patient population
• Collaborate with CNAs, IV/VAT Team, RTs, hospitalists, and charge nurses
• Support resources include rapid response/code teams, patient safety attendants, and behavioral response teams
• Positive and supportive unit culture
• Two-day unit and facility orientation provided
• Navy scrubs required
• Free parking provided in designated areas
• Up to 6 days of time off can be approved, excluding holidays; additional time off must be added to the end of the contract
• First-time travelers will be considered, but preference is given to those with previous travel experience

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Surg Tele RN experience required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification required for Resource Team roles
• General post-surgical nursing skillset including incision care, wound care, drains, chest tubes, trach care, NG tube insertion, and use of braces or traction
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred
• Permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the home unit
