Title: Inventory Control Lead

GM Performance Power Units (GM PPU) is seeking a skilled and motivated Inventory Control Lead to join the Warehouse and Logistics Team. This role is responsible for overseeing and maintaining accurate inventory levels across all GM PPU operations. Will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining standardized inventory management processes and procedures across the enterprise. This role ensures accuracy, efficiency, and compliance in inventory operations, across departments driving consistency and best practices across all locations and business units.

This role is vital for inventory management practices across the enterprise and plays a critical operational role for GM Performance Power Units.

This position requires high attention to detail and a deep understanding of inventory control, management, and material flow in a high-performance engineering environment and critical support function for the manufacturing, assembly, and development of our Formula 1 power unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement standardized inventory control processes and best practices to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain detailed SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for all inventory-related activities.
  • Ensure procedures are communicated effectively and adhered to by all departments and staff.
  • Oversee control of various inventory categories, including raw materials, R&D/developmental parts, equipment/tooling, spare parts, WIP parts/assemblies, finished goods, and return stock.
  • Develop and execute cycle count schedules to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Lead periodic inventory audits; investigate, reconcile, and resolve variances.
  • Identify root causes of inventory issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate inventory records in the warehouse management system (WMS).
  • Implement strategies for handling high-value, sensitive, or specialized inventory items.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive inventory reports, including stock levels, variances, and trends.
  • Act as a liaison between Operations and Finance teams to ensure accurate financial reporting related to inventory, including on-hand quantities, cost capitalization, and other inventory-related financial metrics.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers to provide accurate inventory-on-hand data for project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Work closely with the Purchasing team to process inventory replenishment orders, ensuring timely procurement and alignment with inventory control standards.
  • Provide actionable insights to management for decision-making and process improvements.
  • Assign tasks and monitor performance related to inventory accuracy.
  • Train and guide GM PPU departments on inventory control processes.
  • Take on additional responsibilities and projects as operational needs evolve, ensuring flexibility and support for overall business objectives.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, or related field
  • 8+ years of professional experience – with strong experience in Inventory Management and Control
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing and supply chain methodologies, ideally within a high-performance or precision-engineering environment.
  • Experience working in a warehouse and manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with ERP, WMS, or inventory management systems (Experience with IFS Cloud is a plus)
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, ability to work in a team, important for collaborating with various departments and addressing inventory-related issues.
  • Self-driven with a proactive approach to process development, continuous improvement, and learning.
  • Prior experience operating a forklift or the ability to pass a Forklift certification and the ability to safely operate material handling equipment.

  • Advanced degree such as a Master’s in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Business Administration (MBA) is highly desirable.
