POSITION TYPE: Full-Time, Exempt

REPORTS TO: Chair of the Board, Executive Committee and Board of Directors

WORK SCHEDULE: Full-Time, Hybrid; early mornings, evenings and weekends as required.

POSITION SUMMARY

The President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serves as the chief executive and administrative officer of the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce, DBA The Chamber, Leading Business in Cabarrus and provides visionary, strategic, and operational leadership for the organization and the broader business community.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President & CEO is accountable for the overall success, sustainability, and impact of the Chamber. This role has full responsibility for strategic planning, policy implementation, organizational structure, financial stewardship, staff leadership, membership growth, advocacy and government relations, community and economic development initiatives, and external relations.

As the Chamber’s chief spokesperson and principal strategist, the President & CEO represents the organization with business leaders, elected officials, community partners, and stakeholders at the local, state, and national levels. The position exercises broad authority, discretion, and independent judgment in advancing the Chamber’s mission and achieving Board-approved goals.

EXECUTIVE AUTHORITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

The President & CEO has full authority to manage the operations, staff, and resources of the Chamber within the framework of Board-approved policies, bylaws, and budgets. This position serves as the primary liaison between the Board and staff and is accountable for organizational performance, financial health, and mission impact.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership and Planning

  • Leads the development and implementation of the Chamber’s long-range strategic plan and annual program of work in partnership with the Board of Directors and staff.
  • Identifies emerging business and community issues and recommends strategic responses aligned with the Chamber’s mission.
  • Evaluates organizational performance using measurable outcomes and reports progress to the Board.

Board Governance and Relations

  • Builds and maintains strong, transparent relationships with the Chair of the Board, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors.
  • Provides leadership to ensure effective Board engagement, governance, and accountability.
  • In partnership with the Board Chair, plans and facilitates Board and Executive Committee meetings, including agenda development and preparation of materials.
  • Serves as staff liaison to Board committees, including the Executive Committee, the Nominating Committee, the Budget Committee and other committees as assigned.

Policy Development and Organizational Oversight

  • Assists the Board in the development, interpretation, and refinement of organizational policies and bylaws.
  • Ensures the effective implementation and enforcement of Board-adopted policies.
  • Continuously evaluates the Chamber’s organizational structure, policies, and procedures and recommends improvements to enhance effectiveness and responsiveness.

Advocacy, Government Affairs, and External Relations

  • Leads the Chamber’s advocacy and public policy efforts in alignment with Board-approved positions.
  • Serves as the Chamber’s chief spokesperson on policy matters and business priorities.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with local, state, and federal elected officials and agency leaders.
  • Represents the Chamber in coalitions and partnerships to advance shared business and community interests.

Membership Growth, Engagement, and Value

  • Provides executive leadership for membership recruitment, retention, and engagement strategies.
