Custodian

The purpose of this position is to provide a clean and safe environment in a variety of buildings throughout the City.

Please Note: An offer of employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a fingerprint screening. If the incumbent fails to obtain clearance through the fingerprint screening, they will not be able to access all necessary City buildings and therefore, may be subject to termination.

• Maintains walking surfaces by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, buffing, burnishing, stripping, and waxing; maintains equipment used for cleaning floors
• Ensures cleanliness of restrooms by disinfecting, filling soap and towel dispensers, emptying trash receptacles, and cleaning stall walls, doors, and showers
• Performs window-washing duties by utilizing a ladder or step stool, cloths, windows mops, and squeegees to clean inside and outside windows
• Dusts furniture, walls, windowsills, and other woodwork
• Cleans kitchen using proper cleaning solutions and personal protection

• Performs other similar duties as required

• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License Preferred

Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.

• Positions in this class require: standing, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking

• Medium Work:
  Exerting 20 - 50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly.

• Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, physical hazards.
