Overview
The EHS Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of Superior Industrial Maintenance team members on our jobsites each day. You’ll work alongside Superior operations and field leaders to advance our policies, programs, and procedures governing safe work practices and promote our 24/7 culture of care. This position reports to the Director of EH&S.
Implementing safe working practices and ensuring the well-being of everyone is a core value of Superior. The safety coordinator is responsible for assisting in the administration of Superior’s Safety, Health and Environmental program to ensure a safe and healthy environment for Superior employees, trade contractors, and the surrounding community.
Responsibilities- Preparing and maintaining job site specific safety paperwork.
- Ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations through on-site audits.
- Coordinate and oversee the maintenance and inspection of safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, alarms, and emergency exits).
- Participating in preconstruction meetings and job mobilizations.
- Handling risk assessments to gather information on safety issues.
- Verifying that employees consistently follow safety protocols.
- Develop safety programs via a learn by doing approach. Spend 25% of time in a billable capacity learning from supervisors of Superior’s service lines to develop documentation for safe work practices.
- Perform environmental and industrial hygiene sampling and monitoring (Air, Water & Soil) including but not limited to Asbestos, Lead, IAQ, Metals, VOCs, PCB’s and other materials as requested by EHS.
- Perform routine jobsite inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company EH&S procedures including fire extinguisher inspections, emergency eyewash/safety shower inspections and tests and inspections of hazardous materials accumulation areas.
- Participate in health and safety reviews and audits of projects and provide follow up tracking of action items to ensure completion of corrective actions.
- Assist in the development of EH&S training programs and conduct training as needed for the employees on topics including but not limited to:
- Basic Safety Requirements
- New Hire Training
- DOT Training
- Driver Training
- Mobile Elevated Work Platforms
- Forklift operation
- Scaffolding and Fall Protection
- Promote corporate and project-specific safety and health programs as well as federal, state, and local safety standards.
- Attend required training.
- Help promote a positive safety culture through coaching and educating Superior employees and trade contractors on occupation health and safety requirements.
- Identify potential hazards and provide immediate input, advice, and direction to mitigate hazardous conditions and assure compliance.
- Working closely with field supervision to plan complex safety aspects of the project construction, including critical lifts, hazardous material handling, fire prevention, and evacuation.
- Ensure all incidents are investigated thoroughly and reported timely.
- Educate yourself on Superior’s policies and other regulatory requirements.
- Cultivate a network of industry relationships to bring potential business opportunities to Superior leadership.
- Analyzing health and safety data.
- Reviewing and recommending changes to regular work activities.

- Familiarity with local, state, and federal codes as they apply to all aspects of solar construction and construction equipment and tools.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate environmental health and safety related risks.
- Demonstrated awareness and understanding of EHS policy and management system, the importance of conforming to EHS policies and procedures, and consequences of failing to comply with EHS policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team with attention to detail and organizational abilities.
