We are looking for a Construction Accounting Manager for our client, who is a fast-growing home builder in Concord, NC serving Cabarrus County and surrounding communities. The company builds high-quality homes and vibrant developments through innovative design and exceptional craftsmanship.
This role will work closely with leadership and play a key role in helping the company build strong financial operations as we grow.
Position OverviewWe are seeking a Construction Accounting Manager to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of our growing homebuilding company. This role will manage financial reporting, job costing, WIP schedules, and cash flow visibility while supporting leadership with accurate financial insights.
This is a hands-on role requiring experience with construction or project-based accounting, including job costing, project profitability tracking, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
As the company grows, this role will also help improve financial processes, strengthen internal controls, and support the company’s transition from cash basis accounting to GAAP-based financial reporting.
The Construction Accounting Manager will oversee the bookkeeper, help ensure accurate reporting across projects, and partner with leadership to maintain strong financial visibility across the business.
Note: Candidates with residential construction or homebuilding accounting experience (job costing, WIP schedules, construction draws) are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial OperationsOversee full-cycle accounting including AP, AR, general ledger, payroll, and monthly close
Supervise and support the internal bookkeeper
Maintain accurate financial records and reporting in Quick Books
Prepare monthly financial statements including P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow
Ensure accurate financial data across projects and company operations
Manage job costing and project-level financial tracking
Maintain and monitor WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules
Support percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
Monitor project profitability across multiple communities
Partner with operations to ensure accurate cost tracking and budgeting
Assist with construction draw processes with lenders and title companies
Monitor and forecast cash flow across active projects
Support management of construction lines of credit
Assist leadership with financial planning related to development and construction timelines
Prepare financial reporting packages and performance metrics for leadership
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Provide financial insights to support business decisions
Produce key financial reporting needed for leadership and project oversight
Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax requirements, and internal policies
Support the company’s transition from cash basis accounting to GAAP
Coordinate with external CPAs, tax advisors, and auditors
Maintain documentation and internal controls to support financial accuracy
Improve accounting systems and financial processes as the company grows
Support integration and optimization between Quick Books and Buildertrend
Develop scalable workflows and reporting processes
Identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiency
Assist with employee onboarding processes and internal compliance tracking
Help maintain documentation related to employee records, training, and internal systems
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
5+ years of accounting or finance experience
Experience in residential construction, homebuilding, or project-based accounting
Strong understanding of:
Job costing
WIP reporting
Percentage-of-completion accounting
Construction financial reporting
Experience with Quick Books required
Experience with Buildertrend or similar construction management software preferred
Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, financial analysis)
Experience supporting process improvement or accounting system development in a growing company
CPA is a plus but not required.

$75,000 – $110,000 depending on experience
