Role PurposeLead the planning, decisions, and actions required to establish a successful manufacturing deployment of a new optical fiber coating system. Engage early in the innovation life cycle and partner with the innovation program’s core team to make decisions, manage trade‑offs, and optimize the overall program.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with Commercial & Technology to create a shared understanding of program hypothesis, business case, and core assumptions, and align on objectives, metrics, and deliverables.
- Serve as a “Pull mentality” partner for bringing innovation into manufacturing, ensuring checks and balances for safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Follow and improve corporate, division, and local innovation processes, including MIE playbook, PQA, NPI, and decision processes.
- Interpret manufacturing needs for low‑ and high‑volume phases, influence program priorities, and ensure viable manufacturing operations.
- Ensure product, process, and manufacturing systems can achieve targeted performance in quality, cost, capacity, and safety.
- Define and deliver operational readiness for sites and locations, implementing business processes and systems that enable accurate and timely information flow.
- Develop start‑up, pilot, and scale‑up plans that meet customer requirements and adapt to changes in scale.
- Ensure high‑volume scale‑up operations comply with Achieving Manufacturing Excellence Level 1 criteria.
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering or related engineering discipline with experience in chemical process or polymer manufacturing.
- 10+ years of manufacturing experience, including at least 3 years of leadership in chemical process or polymer manufacturing.
- Practical chemical process and engineering knowledge in a high‑volume manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work with ambiguity, make and manage assumptions, and develop a strategic view.
- Strong team and influence skills within business; ability to influence plant/program priority and resource alignment.
- Effective across cultural shifts in the innovation life cycle; flexibility and learning in early stages and discipline in later stages.
- Strong communication skills to share manufacturing readiness with steering teams, project team members, and division leadership.
- Demonstrated extreme ownership: ability to overcome challenges and lead a team to determine a path forward.
- Operations experience: planning and executing customer orders to on‑time delivery, with ERP, MES, and logistics systems.
- Innovation experience: plant receiver or start‑up lead for new polymer development and deployment into manufacturing.
- Technology experience: understanding of process/quality/equipment engineering needed to support program delivery.
- Manufacturing and system capabilities: PQA, PEx, MEE, KT, Lean, cost analysis, capacity analysis, and industry quality or regulatory requirements.
- Project management skills to manage complex projects with multiple work streams on time and on budget.
