Department: Transmission Construction
Reports to: Supervisor, Area Coordination
We are seeking an experienced Senior Substation Construction Planner to support construction and maintenance activities for transmission and substation assets. This role is responsible for building high-quality work packages, coordinating resources, and driving efficient execution of construction and maintenance programs.
This position plays a critical role in planning, estimating, scheduling, and optimizing work across capital and O&M programs, while collaborating closely with Construction, Transmission Project Management, Grid Operations, and other internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities Construction & Maintenance Planning- Develop complete, execution-ready work packages for construction and maintenance activities
- Review asset performance and maintenance history to identify special requirements
- Identify opportunities to bundle work for improved efficiency and resource optimization
- Produce accurate labor, duration, and resource estimates for construction projects
- Monitor job progress and address schedule or execution risks
- Document and analyze variances between estimated and actual work hours
- Ensure NERC documentation accuracy and compliance (as required)
- Partner with Transmission Project Management and Construction teams to:
- Define project scope and sequencing
- Develop construction plans and schedules
- Allocate resources and crews
- Identify risks and constraints
- Plan clearances and outages
- Coordinate with multiple internal groups including:
- Construction
- Project Management
- T&D Account Representatives
- Nuclear & Fossil Plants
- Grid Operations
- Identify critical work and manage high-priority scheduling conflicts
- Support emergency planning and urgent work coordination
- Assist with clearance planning, hotline tag requests, and outage coordination
- Travel to job sites for:
- Walkdowns and scoping
- Pre-bid and pre-construction meetings
- Package audits and quality reviews
- Verification of materials, tools, and equipment availability
- Continuously improve work package quality through field feedback
Required
- 5+ years of Substation Construction experience
- Knowledge of ITOA
- Strong planning, organization, and coordination skills
- Ability to work cross-functional in team-based environments
- Experience in utility, transmission, or power infrastructure environments
