Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Evaluation:
Physical therapists assess patients' physical conditions by reviewing medical histories, conducting physical examinations, and using diagnostic tests to determine the extent of injuries or disabilities.
Developing Treatment Plans:
Based on the evaluation, PTs create individualized treatment plans that outline specific goals and the methods to achieve them. These plans may include exercises, manual therapy, and the use of specialized equipment.
Administering Therapy:
Physical therapists implement treatment plans through various techniques, including therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and modalities like heat, cold, or electrical stimulation to relieve pain and improve mobility.
Monitoring Progress: PTs regularly monitor patients' progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to ensure optimal recovery and effectiveness of the therapy.
Patient
Education:
Educating patients and their families about the treatment process, self-care techniques, and preventive measures to avoid future injuries is a vital part of a PT's role.
Collaboration:
Physical therapists often work as part of a healthcare team, collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
Documentation:
Maintaining accurate records of patient evaluations, treatment plans, and progress notes is essential for effective communication and insurance purposes.
- Graduate from an accredited school of physical therapy.
Must have New Hampshire or Compact PT license or willing to obtain temp license.
Performs patient evaluations and re-evaluations and documents in accordance with licensure, scope of practice and department standards.
Advocates for and is active in developing disciplinary and interdisciplinary team members.
Ensures they are able to go anywhere in the house as needed.
Verifies and reviews all provider orders and applies all pertinent medical information including lab values, vital signs, etc. routinely.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the profound and prolonged impact of chronic illness. Considers the individuals' age, physical, emotional, social, economic, cultural and vocational status.
Understands the challenges an acute care episode has on a patient and family member. Demonstrates clinical competence in the administration of formal standardized tests, scales, and tools.
