Position: Observation Service | RN | FT Days

Overview

The Observation Service consists of two units providing care to ED and Medical Observation patients. It is a fast-paced environment with quick patient turnover. The team includes providers, nurses, Department Coordinators, and multi-professionals that promote interdisciplinary collaboration. ED observation patients stay 8 to 24 hours;
Medical Observation patients stay 24 to 48 hours. Nurses on this unit train to interpret telemetry and be stroke certified. There are a variety of patient diagnoses and situations on the units at any given time.

Responsibilities
  • Bases nursing actions by applying principles of purposeful, organized thinking to make clinical judgments and decisions.
  • Gathers data through history taking and physical assessment and interprets data to plan and implement interventions to meet patient care needs.
  • Develops, evaluates and revises patient care plans in response to patient needs.
  • Documents care provided and patient progress toward desired outcomes.
  • Directs and supervises others in the performance of delegated nursing activities.
  • Educates patients and/or significant others about the plan of care and prepares them to manage their care after discharge, transfer, or procedure/test.
  • Manages time and resources to deliver patient care.
  • Administers medications and provides direct patient care.
  • Leads the health care team and serves as a Resource Person for the assigned shift.
  • May participate in supervision of Licensed Nursing Assistants and unlicensed personnel.
  • Performs job-specific requirements and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.

Certification, Registration & Licensure: Registered Nurse - New Hampshire Board of Nursing;
Basic Life Support - American Heart Association.

Experience: One year prior clinical nursing experience. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients, care providers, and the multidisciplinary team.

Employment Details

Full-time, day position with rotating shifts. The RN 2 is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for a group of population-specific patients within the department/unit, from simple to complex multi-system issues, in a safe and therapeutic environment. Reports to the Director and/or Nurse Manager. May participate in supervision of Licensed Nursing Assistants and unlicensed personnel.

Hours and Environment

Shifts are 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM with rotating weekends and holidays. The role may involve exposure to biological hazards, chemicals, and other occupational risks typical of hospital settings. Reasonable accommodations may be made as needed.

Physical Demands

The job requires lifting up to 10-50 pounds as described in the posted duties, frequent standing, walking, and manual dexterity, as well as sensory demands typical of healthcare work. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
