Position Summary:

Thelead teacherdemonstratesbehavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. The lead teacher provides early care and education for children which meets their emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs in a developmentally appropriate way.

The lead teacheris responsible for ensuring that the classroom and all classroom team members always follow NH Child Care Licensing regulations and NAEYC Accreditation standards. The lead teacheris responsible for developing and implementing child-directed curriculum with goals and expectations that are based on the NH Early Learning Standards and are consistent with Woodside’sphilosophy. Lead teachers plan the methods to achieve these goals and evaluate curriculum, children, classroom environment and materials, teaching methods, and overall program quality.

As the leader of the educational team, lead teachers are responsible for developing and supervising a cohesive teaching team.

They must be skilled in communicating both with children and adultstomeet the needs of the children, work effectively with families, and effectively guide the members of the teaching team. Lead teachers willmaintainconsistent collaboration with the Center Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Curricula:

  • Responsible for the emotional and physical care of young children: ability to respond sensitively to the children’s interests, requests, and needsregardingindividual children’s differences andneeds andbe willing to adjust the program and curriculum to meet those individual needs.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning andsupportsthe physical, social, cognitive, and emotional development of children.
  • Model developmentally appropriate activities and positive management techniques through daily contact with children and other staff members.
  • Provide activities and opportunities that encourage natural curiosity, exploration, and problem solving appropriate tothe developmental levels of the children and provide culturally diverse materials and experiences.
  • Maintain children’s individual growth and development portfolios.

    Use observations and the NH Early Learning Standards to create and implement curriculum based on individualized learning goals.

Staff:

  • Supervise all classroom staff members,participate in staff evaluations withthe Center Director, and conduct evaluation meetings with

    Center

    Director.
  • Attend andparticipatein monthly staff meetings.
  • Attend and lead 2-hour monthly classroom planning meetings.
  • Model and encouragea strong senseof teamwork among all employees.
  • Work withthe Center Director to trainnew staff members on classroom procedures, including positive behavior guidance, personnel policies and procedures, NH Child Care Licensing regulations, and NAEYC accreditation standards.

Communication and Supervision:

  • Maintain daily attendance,snack, and cleaning records andsubmitto the office weekly.
  • Compose newsletters in detail for parents onno less than amonthly basis.
  • Establish andmaintainconsistent, professional, and efficient written and oral communication with parents.
  • Complete children’s individual growth and development portfolio sin a timely mannerto ensure they are prepared for parent viewing during parent conferences.

    Ensures that all teaching team members are prepared withcompleteportfolios for parent viewing during parent conferences.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information to all team members on a continuous basis.
  • Meet with team members to share observations of children, plan curriculum, oversee portfolio assessment system, summarize classroom successes, and set future classroom/curriculum goals.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greeting each child, family, and teammembersin a warm and friendly manner, providing clear and effective communication with them daily.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement daily activities as they relate to the curriculum and individual needs of the children.
  • Organize and conduct field trips.
  • Provide a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, appealing, and allows children to grow and explore.
