The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern New Hampshire supports 200 staff working in 30 Early Childhood and School Time programs across a large geographic footprint. Position Overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for a full‑time, multi‑classroom assistant teacher at the Mary Stuart Gile Early Learning Center in NHTI’s child development center. As a laboratory school, the Center demonstrates best practices in early childhood education, with student teachers working alongside staff. The Center serves children from 6 weeks to kindergarten and offers excellent potential for growth within a multi‑site organization committed to professional development and training.

Key

Duties
  • Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes
  • Responds sensitively to the interests, requests, and needs of individual children, interacting positively, encouraging exploration, and using positive child‑guidance strategies
  • Assists with the implementation of curriculum‑adapting activities to meet the individual needs of young children and their families
  • Provides guidance and role modeling to Club members
  • Supports program goals to ensure the health and safety of all members
  • Might be asked to track outcome metrics; verifies that programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity
  • Records child observation notes for lead/associate teachers to use as a tool for curriculum planning
  • Keeps accurate and up‑to‑date member records
  • Accounts continuously for the members in their assigned group by name and face
  • Follows all NAEYC standards and GSQ (when applicable), Culture DNA code, as well as BGCCNNH and CCLU rules and policies regarding safety, compliance, and best practices
  • May assist with dispensing medications according to company policy and administering first aid as needed; communicates all occurrences to families
  • Assists in cleaning, organizing, and maintaining classroom well‑being and upkeep
Program Development and Implementation
  • Assists teachers in recognizing and recording children’s progress
  • Assists with the documentation needed in the classroom, including behavioural observation records, accident reports, and communication with families
  • Accepts feedback and applies it to practice
  • Facilitates open and effective, professional verbal and written communication with families, staff, and children
  • Observes classroom staff, students, and volunteers to ensure that best practices are followed; communicates any concerns to the Center Director/supervisor
  • Supports volunteers and practicum students through modeling techniques and strategies that connect theory to practice
  • May increase the visibility of Club programs by sharing daily progress and activities with families via Class Dojo or in person
  • Other duties as assigned
Relationships

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, families, students, and supervisors to receive and provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions, instruct, and advise/counsel. Responsible for frequent communication with families.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents, and others to assist in resolving problems when required.

Requirements
  • Must be at least 16 years of age and work with children only under direct supervision and observation of a staff person
  • Some knowledge of child development and the latest educational theories and practices
  • Ability to form developmentally appropriate relationships with children and promote positive behaviour guidance
  • Ability to organise and supervise members in a safe environment
  • Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions needed to provide proper assistance assigned by teachers or supervisors
  • Ability to communicate with staff, families, and community members in a variety of methods
  • Must be willing to maintain the Club dress code appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities
