The Penn Boarding School Teaching Residency (BSTR) is a groundbreaking collaboration between the Graduate School of Education of the University of Pennsylvania and a consortium of the nation's leading boarding schools. With an innovative and comprehensive curriculum designed specifically for the boarding schools' unique setting, the program provides aspiring teachers a two-year opportunity to receive a Master’s in Science of Education in concert with the exceptional fellowship program offered by St.
Paul’s School.
- Involved with two Science classes each term.
- Coach, or assist, an interscholastic team for two terms.
- Live on campus and be affiliated with a residential house and carry out all the duties and responsibilities of house advisers.
- Meet with the other BSTR Teaching Fellows once a week and with their mentors, formally, at least that often.
- Summer work at Penn each year.
- Online work with the cohort of Fellows from the other schools.
- One weekend a term at one of the consortium schools with faculty from the schools and from Penn.
- Coursework with a mentor l’s.
- Regular reading and writing assignments from the BSTR at the Penn Graduate School of Education.
- Undergraduate degree in a laboratory science is required.
- One goal of the BSTR is to broaden the population of educators prepared to teach in boarding schools by welcoming diverse candidates.
- Candidates should include a cover letter, resume, and college transcripts with this application.
