SHIFT:
Tue‑Sat 8 am‑7 pm (normally 10:30‑7 pm)

About the Role

Be an ambassador for the City of Concord and Concord Police Department. While the POET enforces parking rules and regulations, they do much more. The POET is the face of City government on Main Street and in its neighborhoods. Earn at least $40,000 annually, with additional opportunities for more income via overtime. Responsibilities
  • Tickets motor vehicles that violate city parking ordinances in downtown walking areas, mobile timed zones, municipal lots and garages.
  • Tickets vehicles in violation of ordinances concerning crosswalks, fire hydrants, no‑parking zones, handicap spaces, and fire lanes.
  • Testifies in court regarding appealed parking tickets.
  • Assists with training new personnel.
  • Responds promptly, tactfully and respectfully to public inquiries and complaints about illegally parked vehicles, citations, or inoperable meters and kiosks (in person, by telephone or email).
  • Issues adhesive sticker warnings to vehicles with outstanding fines.
  • Notifies Police Department Headquarters of citizen complaints, disabled vehicles, accidents, traffic problems and suspicious persons using portable radio/telephone.
  • Locates vehicles due for immobilization; places/removes immobilization devices.
  • Facilitates towing of vehicles for violations and completes necessary paperwork.
  • Substitutes for Reception‑area staff (public interaction, record keeping, phone, fines collection, office equipment).
  • Assists with directing traffic and sets up barricades, cones and signage.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment (vehicles, radio, ticket supplies, portable computer).
  • Occasionally works overnight shifts (generally 11 pm‑7 am) for winter parking bans.
  • Observes and monitors parking facilities for suspicious, inappropriate or illegal activity; reports as needed.
  • Monitors cleanliness, vandalism, damaged signage, meter poles, and reports maintenance needs via the web portal.
  • Monitors construction activities and ensures required parking encumbrance permits.
  • Collects, processes, records and deposits money from meters and kiosks.
  • Maintains daily meter repair log and complaint records.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on meters and kiosks as scheduled.
  • Inspects, clears coin jams, removes foreign objects, disassembles, tests, adjusts, replaces components and reassembles units.
  • Dissassembles old units, harvests salvageable parts, reconditions, transports and disposes of obsolete equipment.
  • Cleans and repaints meter and kiosk housings, replaces decals and signage.
  • Updates maintenance logs and informs the Parking Supervisor of availability and condition of tools, parts and supplies.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • High school graduate or recognized equivalent.
  • Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid State of New Hampshire driver’s license.
