Overview

RN - Gastroenterology Physician Practice role at Emerson Health. Reporting to the Practice Manager, Gastroenterology, with clinical oversight from Physicians. The nurse acts as a clinical resource to the Office Staff and the GI Clinical Provider team.

This role includes responding to telephone calls from patients and staff relating to clinical issues, serving as an information conduit between staff, physicians and other clinicians, assisting with pre-procedure calls, assessing patient symptoms and needs, providing medical advice based on clinical protocols and guidelines, determining urgency of patient conditions and recommending appropriate care levels, and educating patients on how to manage health conditions at home.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to telephone calls from patients and staff relating to clinical issues
  • Serve as a clinical resource to the Office Staff and the GI Clinical Provider team
  • Act as an information conduit between staff and physicians and other clinicians
  • Assist with pre-procedure calls
  • Assess patient symptoms and needs
  • Provide medical advice based on clinical protocols and guidelines
  • Determine urgency of patient conditions and recommend appropriate care levels
  • Provide patient education on how best to manage health conditions at home
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, or the equivalent in experience
  • Experience
  • Minimum of one year experience as a Home Health nurse preferred
  • Licensure and/or Certification
  • Current license to practice as a registered professional nurse in Massachusetts
  • Skills
  • Current knowledge of home care nursing practices
  • Ability to respond to rapid changes in patient scheduling
  • Ability to work effectively as team member
  • Excellent customer service skills relating to physicians, clinicians, patients and families
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
