Under the general supervision of the Core Lab Supervisor and the technical guidance of an experienced Medical Technologist, performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic laboratory tests on environmental, blood and body fluid specimens as prescribed by physicians and healthcare providers in the technical area.

• Education: Associate degree in Hematology, Biology, Basic Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science or graduate of an approved program in Medical Laboratory Science required.
• Experience: Minimum one year of experience in all areas of the Laboratory or Hematology Department. New graduates from an accredited school of Medical Laboratory Technology are considered to have one year of Laboratory experience in all areas of the Laboratory.
• Licensure and/or Certification: ASCP or NCA certification required, or ASCP or NCA eligible with certification achieved within 6 months of employment.
• Skills: Must have the ability to take action based on review of policies, protocols, procedures and methodologies. Requires knowledge of basic laboratory methods and analytical principles in Hematology. Working knowledge of automated and manual laboratory equipment. Manual dexterity sufficient to effect venipuncture and safely handle specimens and calibrate equipment, etc. Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization may exist.
  
  Good knowledge of quality control principles. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to reasonably make appropriate judgment in communications and actions with patients, physicians, outside agencies, vendors and fellow staff members. Computer proficiency required. Must have the ability to read, write and communicate in English. Ability to maintain confidential information required.
