About Child Advocates of Contra Costa County

Child Advocates of Contra Costa County is dedicated to providing programs and support for children and youth involved with the child welfare or juvenile justice systems. Our Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Program recruits, trains and supports volunteers who serve as advocates for children and youth navigating the child welfare or juvenile justice systems, ensuring their needs are met and their basic interests are represented.

Position

Summary

The CASA Case Coordinator screens, supervises and supports CASA Volunteers and oversees the management of cases assigned to CASA Volunteers. CASA Case Coordinators regularly use discretion and independent judgment in performing their duties and work under the general supervision of the Program Director. CASA Case Coordinators may also regularly execute special assignments or tasks under general supervision.

Job Responsibilities
  • Participate in and contribute to the interviewing, screening and training of prospective CASA Volunteers
  • Prepare court orders and assign new cases to CASA Volunteers
  • Coordinate and facilitate case review
  • Review, edit, and approve CASA court reports in collaboration with the CASA Volunteer
  • Supervise, support and advise Team Leaders and CASA Volunteers with an adherence to CASA policy and procedures and in alignment with the program’s mission
  • Participate in meetings with Team Leaders and CASA Volunteers
  • Review incoming case documents and monthly Volunteer Hours Logs
  • Maintain volunteer and case electronic files in accordance with National CASA standards
  • Complete 12 hours of continuing education annually
  • Collaborate on volunteer recognition and retention practices
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal legal mandates as well as National CASA Association and California CASA Association standards
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Experience in the fields of child welfare, child development, juvenile justice or social services
  • Experience working with volunteers is preferred
  • BA/BS degree or completed coursework relevant to the position (e.g. social work, psychology, sociology) is preferred
  • Ability to use independent discretion and judgment to complete tasks and overall mission
  • Ability to complete job assignments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks and projects in order to meet mandated deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to offer critical analysis and constructive feedback
  • Capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, volunteers and community partners
  • Knowledge and application of self-care and stress management practices
  • Strong computer skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and ability and willingness to learn new software and applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be respectful of all people regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, socioeconomic background, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation or disability
  • Criminal justice fingerprint clearance (Federal, State, CACI/child abuse registry)
Additional Information

This is a full-time, exempt position. While permission may be given to work remotely following the introductory period, a Case Coordinator must be able and willing to work in person at the Child Advocates office in Concord regularly. The position also requires the ability to work some evenings and weekends. Reports to the Program Director.

Compensation

$72,000 annual salary

Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance; paid time off; paid sick time; and retirement plan participation.
