CLASS TITLE
: CUSTODIAN

Work Length: 8 hours per day

Days Worked: 260 Days

DEFINITION
: Under immediate supervisor, performs work of routine difficulty in performing general custodial services in a school plant, and performs related work as required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
:

• Sweeps, mops, waxes and scrubs floors
• Dust, waxes, washes and polishes furniture and woodwork
• Empties and cleans waste receptacles
• Washes windows and walls, cleans restrooms and classroom heaters and screens, sweeps sidewalks and play areas
• Moves and arranges furniture and equipment
• Clean fountains
• Polishes metalwork
• Replaces light bulbs
• Replenishes supplies
• Turns out lights and locks doors and windows
• Reports the need for repairs
• Watches buildings to prevent vandalism
• Operates power cleaning equipment
• May do limited grounds maintenance work
• May make minor non-technical repairs
