Seeking an Enthusiastic & Organized Special Education Teacher to Start ASAP
Orion Academy is seeking a full-time credentialed Special Education Teacher for the 25-26 school year and beyond to teach Literature.
We are a small private high school that specializes in students with neurodiversity. A familiarity with Autism and similar diagnoses is necessary. We provide training in the fundamentals of teaching to students with these learning profiles. These students are much like your average high school students, though they struggle with Executive Functioning (organization, planning, and similar) and social skills. Our students are bright, friendly, and hard-working;
many love Orion specifically because it provides a place where they finally feel that they "fit in" around their peers.
Position Overview
Full-time Special Education Teacher
Provide instruction and support to students with ASD and other disabilities
Teach Literature courses (grades 9-12): writing fundamentals, analytical essays, and critical thinking
Teach Personal Projects, a signature course focused on organization, planning, research, and presentations
Teach Drama, an elective course focused on acting fundamentals, collaboration, and performance.
Qualifications
California Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe credential
Autism Authorization (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
Experience teaching writing or literature preferred
Familiarity with 9-12 Common Core ELA standards
Experience with educational technology preferred
Dog-friendly campus (comfort around dogs required)
Does not need a visa sponsorship (We are not able to help with this at this time)
Work Environment
Small class sizes (6-10 students)
Predictable class structure and quiet, safe campus
Highly collaborative, close-knit staff
Participation in school events, clubs, and activities is expected

Salary dependent on experience starting at $60,000
