CAMP COUNSELOR – CAMP CONCORD (SEASONAL)
The City of Concord's Recreation Services Department is seeking people to work for the City's Camp Concord Program. Salary is negotiable based on experience.
- Camp Counselor I: $64.22–$70.89 per day plus room and board, minimum 1 year experience.
- Camp Counselor II: $74.47–$84.26 per day plus room and board, minimum 2 years experience.
Part‑time job opportunity; all positions are part time, limited service, requiring 5–6 days a week, early morning, evening, and weekend shifts when required, and weekly in‑service training.
Camp Concord OverviewCamp Concord is nestled high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, between the majestic shores of South Lake Tahoe and the calming beauty of Fallen Leaf Lake. Camp specializes in a variety of programming and activities, including family camps, youth camps, mother‑and‑son camps, adults over 50 camps, and Labor Day camps.
The 2025 season runs from June 1 – August 2, 2026. Off‑season work is available from August 3 – October 1, 2026 for select positions.
What You Will Be DoingUnder supervision, Camp Counselors assist with a variety of camp program activities, including hospitality and customer service, food service, the camp office, and camp activities and programming. Activities may include local excursions, swimming, barbecues, arts and crafts, cooking projects, and contests, as deemed suitable for the age of the participants.
We Are Looking For Someone Who- Can work the entire season.
- Can live on site at Camp Concord in South Lake Tahoe.
- Can participate in a mandatory, paid staff orientation training on June 2, 2025.
- Is an excellent role model and mentor for youth.
- Is a team player.
- Exhibits excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Submit a completed City of Concord application and the required supplemental question responses online yofconcord.org/jobs. Attach copies of relevant certificates.
- All qualified applications will be competitively evaluated. Candidates with the strongest qualifications will be invited to interview.
- Successful candidates will receive a conditional offer and must clear TB testing and fingerprint check.
Conditional job offers may require fingerprinting with the California Department of Justice and FBI. The resulting report may be used to determine suitability. A conviction does not automatically disqualify a candidate.
Responsibilities- Learn and implement camp hospitality plan and serve as a role model.
- Prepare arrival information, conduct camp tours, and assist families with settlement.
- Deliver program information to families positively and educationally.
- Ensure cleaning, housekeeping and maintenance tasks are completed timely.
- Assist Facility Specialists with exterior maintenance and light maintenance.
- Provide support at program activities such as campfires, family game night, luau, evening kids hours, etc.
- Supervise campers during all activities, enforce safety procedures, assist families with issues.
- For Counselor II: serve as program lead for a specific area, assist with activity planning and implementation, assist office tasks, run camp store when needed.
Knowledge of:
- Operations of public recreation programs.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Games, sports, arts & crafts and other recreational activities.
- Basic record‑keeping principles and procedures.
Ability to:
- Positively motivate kids, teens, and adults.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Account for money and make change.
- Interpret and explain City policies.
- Monitor operations and report safety and discipline issues.
- Deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices.
- Establish cooperative relationships with employees and public.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Counselor I:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some experience working with children or youth.
- Certifications:
American Red Cross Standard First Aid, CPR/AED, and Food Handling training at hire.
Counselor II:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some experience working or attending camp or similar recreation program.
- Customer service experience and/or experience with different age groups.
- Certifications:
American Red Cross First Aid, CPR/AED, Food Handling, and Lifeguard training at hire.
A valid California Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record are required for select positions. Must clear TB testing and fingerprint check.
