The Director of Fleet Maintenance is a pivotal operations role within our organization, charged with ensuring the safety, reliability, and cost efficiency of our vehicle fleet and equipment. This leadership position oversees the Maintenance department, managing all facets from labor and inventory to compliance and vendor relations. The ideal candidate will bring strategic oversight, operational expertise, and a commitment to excellence in fleet management.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Oversee the labor hours, daily work and safety of employees engaged in fleet and facility maintenance and repair within budget.
- Oversee parts inventory, and consumable supplies within budget.
- Oversee work schedules including extra workdays and shifts as needed. Staff the fleet shop properly based on fleet availability.
- Oversee proper selection, purchase and utilization of company assets (tools and equipment) in support of the fleet maintenance department.
- Manage processes and repairs with proper departments as necessary.
- Develop business relationships to ensure communication and efficient operations with vendors.
- Oversee proper scheduling of fleet maintenance and repairs; along with compliance of all Company programs, including preventative maintenance and inspection of vehicles, non‑scheduled maintenance and troubleshooting, repair, rebuild and overhaul of vehicles.
- Oversee fleet maintenance functions and various operational and expense reporting.
- Implement efficiency ideas, cost reduction measures and assist with the implementation of changes within fleet maintenance.
- Conduct audits to ensure all required documentation is accurately completed including all work orders, breakdowns root cause analysis and action plans for prevention, preventive maintenance logs, pre‑post trip inspections, certifications and that items are installed correctly with a minimum potential for loss.
- Oversee fleet services budget to include past year expenses; adjust and administer all fleet service purchases and verify contract adherence between NRS and vendor services to ensure efficient operations.
- Stay current with technical manuals, literature and technical advancements of the trade as it pertains to company owned vehicles.
- Build and maintain employee relations through regular department or pre‑shift meetings; maintain ongoing interaction; keep communication channels open with employees by answering questions and explaining policies and procedures; monitor employee morale; submit and respond to ideas to improve employee engagement and enablement.
- Administer, train and consistently enforce company policies and procedures.
- Lead department safety meetings and coordinate efforts with Safety department to aid in training, conduct employee observations, update preferred work methods, conduct accident investigations to determine root causes, and routine safety inspections. Make recommendations for disciplinary action and/or behavior modification where required.
- Perform management functions of staff selection, training and development, performance reviews, establish and hold others accountable to achieve goals, coaching and counseling, discipline and/or terminations.
- Ensure compliance with all company and safety rules, policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, DOT, BIT and EFC).
