Job Description: Under general supervision, performs professional accounting work, including auditing, analyzing, and verifying fiscal records and reports, preparing financial and statistical reports, providing information to District staff regarding accounting practices and procedures, and reconciling general ledger accounts; assists in preparing the District s annual budgets; prepares year-end audit reports and schedules; and performs related work as required.
Responsibilities- Provides professional and technical assistance in the administration and implementation of the District s accounting, auditing, and financial programs.
- Prepares a wide variety of financial and statistical reports, financial statements, work papers, reconciliations, and cost analyses, including reports to Federal, State, and local agencies, budgetary reports, and other accounting documents and analyses.
- Monitors expenditures, revenues, and budget allocations to determine the District s financial status and prepares custom reports, graphs, and schedules as needed; provides budget information to various funding agencies as required.
- Prepares journal entries and reconciles general ledger and subsidiary accounts; develops reallocations of budgeted amounts for various programs; prepares monthly financial statements and distributes revenue and expenditure reports to departments.
- Interprets and applies general accounting and auditing principles, responds to inquiries regarding procedures and District accounts.
- Analyzes and reconciles expenditure and revenue accounts, including bond accounts; reviews and processes appropriation transfers; reconciles bond and bank statements to the general ledger.
- Participates in departmental programs including financial statements, general ledger, monthly statements, and special projects; conducts studies and reports and coordinates with staff on financial reports.
- Prepares data and reports such as adjustments, transfers, budget amendments, and the reconciliation of transactions in accounting software.
- Receives proposed budgets from operating departments and reviews for accuracy; develops reallocations of budget amounts where appropriate.
- Compiles reports of budget revenue and expense accounts; works with campus and district offices to ensure timely and accurate budget reports.
- Reviews contracts relating to special funded programs to ensure guidelines are followed; assists in coordinating and conducting periodic external and internal audits.
- Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions to stay current on accounting principles and practices; provides professional and technical assistance to management staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of: Modern principles and practices of accounting and finance, program budgeting and auditing; data processing related to accounting; applicable laws and regulations; record-keeping principles; modern office practices and software; data collection and report preparation;
English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation; customer service principles. - Ability to: Analyze financial data and draw sound conclusions; prepare clear financial statements and reports; apply and explain policies and regulations; perform arithmetic and statistical computations; enter and retrieve data efficiently; establish and maintain filing and tracking systems; organize multiple projects and meet deadlines; operate office equipment and software; communicate effectively; work with diverse groups; build positive working relationships.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Typical qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in accounting, finance, business or public administration, or related field and two (2) years of responsible professional accounting experience. Sensitivity to and understanding of multi-cultural, diverse environments and college students.
Must possess mobility to work in an office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read materials and screens, and hearing/speech to communicate. Primarily sedentary; may require standing or walking between areas. Finger dexterity for keyboard use. May need to lift up to 25 pounds.
Environmental ElementsOffice environment with moderate noise, controlled temperature, and no direct exposure to hazardous substances. May interact with upset staff or public in enforcing policies.
