3rd Shift Supervisor Position Summary
The 3rd Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading overnight manufacturing operations, ensuring a safe, efficient, and high-quality production environment while preparing the facility for the next day's operations. This role oversees production team members, supports equipment performance, and provides detailed shift-to-shift communication to ensure continuity and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and oversee all 3rd shift production activities to achieve safety, quality, and productivity targets.
- Monitor equipment performance, troubleshoot operational issues, and coordinate maintenance support as needed.
- Conduct shift start-up meetings, reinforcing safety expectations, production goals, and quality standards.
- Review prior shift performance and prepare detailed turnover documentation for incoming leadership.
- Ensure materials are staged, organized, and ready to support the following day's production schedule.
- Maintain accurate documentation of production output, downtime, and team performance metrics.
- Coach, mentor, and develop production employees to promote accountability and engagement.
- Perform end-of-shift inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety compliance, and operational readiness.
- Address and document safety incidents or quality concerns in accordance with established procedures.
- Leadership & Team Development: Ability to motivate, guide, and develop production personnel to meet operational objectives.
- Organization & Planning: Strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage workflow to meet deadlines.
- Technical Proficiency: Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment, processes, and documentation practices.
- Quality & Safety Focus: Commitment to maintaining rigorous quality standards and a safe work environment.
- Problem-Solving: Capable of identifying root causes and implementing practical, effective solutions.
- Communication: Clear and effective verbal and written communication across shifts and departments.
- Decision-Making: Demonstrates sound judgment and confidence in a fast-paced production setting.
- Experience in plastics, foam, extrusion, or similar manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Visual, or comparable platforms).
- Exposure to lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Forklift certification and knowledge of warehouse safety practices.
Work Environment Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the shift.
- Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting up to 100 pounds.
- Use of tools, ladders, and production or inspection equipment as required.
- Routine exposure to moving machinery, noise, and manufacturing materials.
- Possible exposure to dust, humidity, and varying temperatures.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or trade training preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- 1–3 years of supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using ERP or manufacturing systems.
- Demonstrated success in training, coaching, and leading production team members.
