LOCATION: South Pole Station, Antarctica
SECTOR/DEPT: Gana-A'Yoo Services Corporation (GSC) Antarctica
REPORTS TO: Steward Coordinator
WAGE BAND: $600-682 weekly
We are currently seeking a Steward (South Pole) – responsible for providing exemplary customer service and performing duties that support the delivery of high‑quality food. Responsibilities include cleaning all common areas, berthing areas, work centers and recreational facilities under the housing staff’s guidance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide exceptional customer service as directed by the Steward Coordinator.
- Perform daily tasks efficiently and thoroughly.
- Stock and replenish all ancillary food and non‑food items according to the tasking sheet during and between meal hours; monitor quantities and adjust stock levels.
- Prepare and chill adequate beverages to support community use.
- Maintain safety and sanitation in kitchen, dining, and service areas, including proper equipment usage and cleaning schedules.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures and food service department responsibilities.
- Adhere to daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
- Follow proper thawing procedures for frozen items.
- Label, date, and utilize prepared beverages, frozen desserts, and leftovers efficiently.
- Discard all food waste and non‑food waste per approved guidelines.
- Monitor and replenish coffee consumption.
- Coordinate with cooks to transfer and scrape dirty pots to the pot‑washing area.
- Prepare outgoing and incoming personnel berthing rooms.
- Restock supplies in toilets, showers, laundry areas, and janitor storage.
- Load and unload housing, office supplies, and linen as required.
- Process laundry from inbound and outbound passengers.
- Prepare presentation rooms for DV groups and holiday decorations as needed.
- Create maintenance issue reports for facilities maintenance.
- Assist with duties in the station store and post office as needed.
- Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting to safety regulation maximum and repetitive motions.
- Work on hands and knees, e.g., scrubbing floors.
- Work effectively within a diverse, team‑based environment.
- Maintain motivation and a positive attitude in a dynamic, fast‑paced setting.
- Support Operations Division metrics.
- Support ASC metrics and comply with ASC Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
- Keep safety a priority and maintain a safe workplace.
- High school education or GED.
- Minimum six months of related experience.
- Current Serv Safe Food Handler certificate required before deployment.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- US citizenship or permanent residency required.
