JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY

The Assistant Principal with Athletic Duties serves as a member of the high school administrative leadership team and functions as both a campus instructional leader and the chief administrator of the school's athletic program.

In this dual‑capacity role, the Assistant Principal with Athletic Duties supports academic excellence, student management, and campus operations while providing comprehensive leadership, supervision, and compliance oversight for all interscholastic athletics.

The Assistant Principal with Athletic Duties also ensures that athletics operate as an extension of the school's instructional mission, promoting academic achievement, student well‑being, equity of access, sportsmanship, and positive school culture in alignment with district priorities, CHSAA regulations, and Title IX requirements.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Master's degree in Education, Sports Administration, or related field.
  • License / Certification

    Required:

    CHSAA and CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days)
  • Work Experience

    Required:

    Minimum three (3) years of successful experience as a building leader or equivalent leadership experience in secondary education
  • Demonstrated experience in athletic leadership, coaching supervision, or activities administration

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provision of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Core Assistant Principal Responsibilities
  • Serve as a member of the campus administrative team.
  • Assist the Principal in implementing the Campus Improvement Plan.
  • Support instructional leadership and monitor student achievement data.
  • Oversee discipline and academic monitoring for an assigned student cohort.
  • Ensure student discipline is applied equitably and consistently.
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned certified, classified, and support staff.
  • Serve as Administrator on Duty during school hours and at evening/weekend events.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive school climate.
  • Participate in master scheduling, staffing recommendations, and enrollment planning in collaboration with the Principal.
  • Participate in campus threat assessment, crisis response planning, and school safety initiatives.
Core Athletic Program Leadership
  • Serve as the chief administrator of the high school athletic program.
  • Oversee all athletic programs, coaches, and athletic support staff.
  • Establish and maintain high standards for sportsmanship, academic eligibility, and student‑athlete conduct.
  • Promote alignment between athletics and the school's academic mission.
  • Ensure equitable access to athletic programs consistent with district and Title IX expectations.
Instructional Supervision and Evaluation
  • Supervise and evaluate an assigned instructional department, elective program, or group of certified staff.
  • Conduct formal observations and evaluation conferences in alignment with district evaluation systems.
  • Support professional growth and continuous improvement for assigned staff members.
Student Activities and School Engagement
  • Provide oversight for student activities beyond athletics, including clubs, assemblies, dances, and major campus events as assigned.
  • Ensure student activities align with district expectations for safety, supervision, and positive school culture.
