Batch Plant Operator Job Description
Position Summary:
Primary responsibilities are to operate and maintain a concrete batch in good working condition. He will work with dispatch and managers to supervise drivers, loader operator and yard workers to expedite production. Monitoring raw materials and ready-mix concrete for quantity and quality are additional responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Report to work and start-up batch plant 30 minutes prior to drivers arriving.
- Oversee and participate if needed in plant maintenance including lubrication schedule, spill clean-up, dust collector maintenance, silo clean-up and batch house general housekeeping.
- Make regular plant inspections to look and listen for plant problems and report to manager.
- Make daily inspections of hoppers, plant, conveyors and other equipment to look and listen for any problems.
- Report any problems or safety issues to the plant manager.
- Give directions and special instructions to drivers.
- Monitor material inventories for quality and quantity.
- Monitor baghouse and dust collectors for emissions.
- Perform or assist as instructed to fill out reports including TCEQ, TxDOT, maintenance and inventory.
- Be proficient in using the batch and dispatch programs.
- Work with managers, supervisors, and dispatchers to organize and supervise drivers.
- Spot check loads for quality control.
- Ensure the plant is ready, correct materials are in bins and cement inventories are adequately scheduled for the next day.
- Perform end of the day procedures including ticket organization, computer and plant shut down.
- Communicate with dispatcher to verify jobs status, mix designs for projects are correct for next day.
- Follow environmental rules and procedures to ensure the plant and yard comply with federal, state, local laws and company requirements.
- Work with the plant manager, loader operator and other personnel to improve efficiency, quality of concrete and solve problems.
- Be willing to operate the front-end loader when needed.
- Understand and follow directions in English from supervisors as to required work.
- Be willing to perform and/or assist in other duties as needed to operate and maintain concrete batch plants, trucks and equipment in operation as assigned by management.
- Adhere to all company, TCEQ, and OSHA rules and regulations at all times.
- Meet or exceed company safety standards including PPE and uniforms.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Texas issued driver's license.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/customers as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment.
- Must be able to pass a drug test.
- Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, and/or pulling of controls.
- Employee must be able to climb a ladder and work at heights up to 80 feet.
- Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, high noise, and working outdoors.
- Must wear personal protective equipment when required.
- Employee must be able to lift 100 lbs. sack 4 ½ Feet high.
- Available to work a flexible schedule based on production need.
