Overview
APPS Job Readiness Program (AJRP) supports youth and young adults in receiving paid, hands-on work experience across several career fields through on-site placements. These experiences help to shape confident professionals by focusing on career and workplace development, integrity, accountability, financial literacy and community engagement.
This position is primarily a summer season role with the possibility of continued employment based on needs of the program. Work schedules may include daytime, evening, or occasional weekend hours. AJRP participants must be able to commit to program expectations, including scheduled work hours and training opportunities.
Responsibilities- Under general supervision, perform a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled recreation or parks related activities on a seasonal basis; perform related duties as required.
- Act as attendant at various rented recreational facilities by collecting and verifying user permits, ensuring standards of acceptable conduct, and cleaning and maintaining the facilities; open and close recreational facilities at designated times.
- Distribute, set up, and collect sports equipment (e.g., volleyball and basketball nets, golf carts and scoreboards); arrange tables and chairs; inspect equipment to identify repair or replacement needs; distribute and collect supplies; take inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Inform players of rules concerning dress, conduct or equipment and enforce rules or eject unruly players or unauthorized persons as necessary.
- Distribute and monitor free lunches to eligible participants in a free lunch program.
- Assist with display, scheduling, and promotional functions at an art facility.
- Perform general grounds cleaning work; pick up debris; rake leaves or sand traps; pull weeds; trim and mow grass; dig holes for planting; maintain athletic fields, playgrounds, and boat docks.
- Assist in making minor repairs to facilities, fixtures, and equipment; assist skilled park, forestry, and horticultural personnel in the care of various plants and trees.
- Empty trash barrels and charcoal grills; clean and maintain restrooms; collect personal belongings from swimming pool participants and ensure proper return of belongings.
- Act as a starter for City golf courses; ensure golfers get off first tee, provide golf carts to paying golfers, and allow faster players to play through at various holes.
- Coordinate use of recreational facilities to prevent interference among players.
- Set up equipment and sponsor banners; present musical groups to the audience for outdoor concerts.
- Patrol recreational facilities to detect theft, fire, vandalism, or destruction and report damages; inspect facility premises to identify maintenance and repair needs.
- Prepare and/or complete routine records and reports.
- May drive a pick-up truck, van, golf cart, or riding mower in support of regular duties.
- May operate hand or power tools, weed eaters, pruning equipment, cleaning equipment, computers, cash registers, and/or typewriters.
- May be required to flag traffic in park maintenance work.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license may be required for some assignments.
