Head Coach – 7th Grade Boys Lacrosse – Hastings Middle School
Reports to: Middle School Athletic Director
Job Summary
This position coaches and provides direction to student athletes to help them achieve a high level of skill and develop discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork in lacrosse.
QualificationsEducation and/or
Experience:
Certification and three years of head coaching experience preferred. Prior successful experience in a school setting or coaching student athletes strongly preferred.
Other required capabilities: Accurate reporting; financial management; interpersonal skills; culture and team building; language, mathematical, and reasoning abilities; computer skills; and other relevant skills as described below.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must hold or be willing to obtain:
Fundamentals of Coaching, Concussion Training, First Aid or Sports Injury Prevention Training, CPR/AED, Sudden Cardiac Arrest (Lindsay's Law), Ohio Department of Education Pupil Activity Permit.
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
- Instructs and teaches lacrosse skill sets and techniques for individual and team achievement.
- Establishes a fair and objective method for player selection and communicates selection decisions clearly to students for team rosters.
- Meets with parents/guardians of team members or tryouts when needed.
- Creates and maintains an inclusive team culture.
- Plans and schedules activities, practices, and games in conjunction with the athletic director.
- Ensures a certified coach is present at all practices and matches.
- Develops training programs and practice schedules.
- Maintains and inventories athletic equipment and uniforms; ensures proper cleaning and storage.
- Arranges game transportation with the athletic director.
- Travels with student athletes or appoints a district-approved designee for travel to games.
- Adheres to district financial policies for collection and disbursement of money, expenses, and receipts.
- Recommends purchases of uniforms, equipment, and supplies.
- Coordinates with the Middle School Athletic Director on practice and match schedules.
- Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Ensures forms (insurance, attendance, medical) are current and that athletes are cleared by the Athletic Director’s office.
- Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles; supervises students in locker rooms and ensures appropriate behavior.
- Locks and secures offices, storage rooms, doors, locker rooms and lights after practices and matches (head coach may delegate to an assistant).
- Explains and enforces rules regarding conduct and eligibility of athletic activities and athletes.
- Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times.
- Coordinates with the Press and reports game scores; follows OHSAA and Ohio Capital Conference rules and regulations.
- Provides guidance for youth lacrosse programs and assists in selecting and training assistant coaches.
- Works with Athletic Training regarding injuries; reports and secures approval for all adults associated with the sport.
- Submits athlete rosters and updates to the Middle School Athletic Director’s office; manages season statistics and award listings.
- Consults with the athletic director regarding off-season training programs.
- Assigns duties to all assistant coaches and oversees pre-season practices.
- Interacts thoughtfully with students, staff, parents, coaches, and officials; resolves conflicts professionally.
- Maintains confidential records and represents the school and district professionally in all interactions.
- Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours; attends work regularly and is punctual.
- Attends in-service training and staff meetings as needed.
- Sanitizes and cleans equipment; inspects facilities for health and safety concerns.
- Chaperones/supervises athletic events as needed.
