Position: Lifeguard
Reports to: Director of Student Life or Designee
Employment Status: Part-Time
FLSA Status: Regular/Non-Exempt
Rate of Pay: $14.75
Description: Responsible for overseeing the UAHS pool during practices, meets, special events, and open swim hours.
Hours- Mornings (M‑F): 5:30 – 7:00 a.m.
- Afternoons (M‑F): 3:30 – 7:00 p.m.
- Saturdays: 7:00 – 11:00 a.m.
- Hours will vary on meet days.
- At least 15 years of age.
- Certification or ability to obtain Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard Certification.
- Maintain required fitness level and alertness to respond effectively to any emergency.
- Attend all required training programs and meetings.
- Maintain constant observation of the pool area.
- Ensure safety by communicating and enforcing pool rules.
- Check for hazardous conditions and ensure proper safety equipment.
- Complete incident and accident reports as required.
- Maintain and record accurate records of pool chemical readings, supplies, etc.
- Add chemicals to the pool as needed.
- Keep the environment clean by following and recording proper cleaning procedures.
- Set up and store equipment, following proper cleaning procedures, and assist other employees with event setup.
- Practice rescue and fitness drills regularly.
- Promote aquatics and other YMCA programs.
- Communicate suggestions to improve the aquatics facility.
- Clear swimmers from the pool according to procedure for inclement weather, emergencies, rest periods, drills, and closing.
- Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
- Exposure to loud noises.
- Interactions with unruly children.
- Interruption of duties by students, visitors, and/or staff.
- Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, climb, kneel, and stoop.
Employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non‑prescribed controlled substance and use in the workplace throughout employment with the District.
