This role will be filled in a hybrid capacity, with collaboration taking place in our Columbus OH office 2 days per week.

We’re seeking a Java Spring Boot Developer to support AWD
, a critical workflow distribution application that moves tasks, files, and data across Nationwide systems. In this role, you’ll focus on backend development, building customized batch jobs and web services that interface directly with the AWD vendor application.

You’ll work on stored procedures, FTP transfers to NAS or S3 buckets, payloads, Kafka queues
, and develop new cloud services while modernizing legacy batch jobs into cloud cron jobs. Secure coding practices are essential as you help maintain and upgrade application architecture. Strong communication skills are key—you’ll collaborate closely with tech leads and diverse business partners across Nationwide.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you’ll analyze, code, configure, test, debug, document and maintain applications.

• Analyze, develop, test, debug, document and deploy software according to standards and best practices.
• Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
• Use Dev Sec Ops  practices, tooling and techniques.
• Drive continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation.
• Manage project priorities, deadlines and deliverables proactively.

Reporting Relationships:
Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.

Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.

Two or more years of analysis and technology experience.

Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle moderately sophisticated business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
