Foster Care Internship:Columbus, OH
National Youth Advocate Program is accepting internship applications on our Foster Care team for the Summer, 2026 and Fall, 2026 in our Columbus region. As an intern, you will get hands‑on experience working with the foster care population, with a large portion of the experience being community based work. You will also have the opportunity to observe other therapeutic areas throughout the agency to gain insight to the communities and clients we serve.
This position works closely with youth, family, foster parents, and community partners.
Enrollment in a Master level Social Work or Master’s level Clinical Counseling program required.
Your Internship Experience may include:The Master’s Level Intern position may include the following, as well as other duties assigned:
- Provides appropriate individual, group, and family mental health services, case management, transportation, and other professional services, meeting or exceeding established outcomes thresholds on behalf of persons served.
- Traveling as needed, to provide community‑based services to youth and families
- Completing all required documentation in a timely manner.
- Completing all required training in a timely manner.
- Coordinating and monitoring services for the youth and family in the community, including but not limited to, mental health, medical, educational, psychological, vocational, and social services.
- Regularly reviews and modifies youth‑based plans to assure consistent progress and success on written plan goals.
- Establishes and maintains strong relationship with assigned foster parents and families of origin.
- Assists in family reunification and/or stabilization efforts with the youth’s primary family or other permanent living arrangements consistent with the youth’s case plan.
- Provides safety assessment, crisis response, and behavioral stabilization services as required to assure safety and stability for youth served.
- Actively participates in the weekly supervision process.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or comparable Human Services field from an accredited institution.
- Enrolled in an accredited institution for a Master’s Degree in Social Work or Master’s in Clinical Counseling
- An internship or field placement is a requirement by the institution.
- Upon the completion of the internship, the individual would receive credit toward their pursued degree.
- LSW, SWT or CT licensure required
- You must be 21 years of age on the first day of your internship
- Experience working in direct service with youth and families strongly preferred.
- A willingness to work flexible and non‑traditional hours
- Capacity to remain objective and professional in all areas of job function.
- Capacity to be flexible and responsive to youth served, foster caregivers, system partners, and internal customers.
- Capacity to remain objective and professional in all areas of job function.
- Demonstrates tolerance and respect for the ideas and actions of others.
- Capacity to effectively work with and be respectful and sensitive to persons from various cultures, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, and racial backgrounds.
- Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
- Valid driver’s license
- Reliable personal transportation
- Good driving record
- Minimum automobile insurance coverage of $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury liability
