Position Summary
Under direct supervision of the on-duty receiving and release supervisor and/or manager, this position performs the job duties in a high to moderate security setting. This position, in collaboration with JIC security staff, is responsible for the admission and release process of youth. This position is responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and discipline of youth within the Receiving and Release department of the facility.
Conducts screening and processing of youth for admission or release from the JIC and maintains extensive and accurate documentation. Responsible for intake, JJIS entries, e-filing, and maintaining accurate JJIS Court records for youth admissions and conditional release of youth. May be assigned to any shift, 24/7/365.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Maintains security of the Receiving and Release Unit and JIC by monitoring the security lock panel, camera screens, phones, and youth housed in the receiving and release department.Enter and retrieves data from various systems, questions youth to gather data necessary to process and slate youth; builds, maintains, and updates physical and electronic youth record. This process includes but is not limited to, screening for risk, suicide risk, gang affiliations, health status, psycho/social condition, juvenile justice history, etc.Performs the Detention Screening Instrument (DSI) by assessing youth charges, previous charges, Court, and AWOL history‑as well as screening for a variety of risk factors.Records and secures all youth’s personal possessions as a part of the slating and screening process. Distributes JIC clothing, shoes, and bedding for all youth held.Monitors youth in holding rooms through continuous visual inspection and documents the inspection every five to fifteen minutes.Maintain database records to ensure accurate data collection.Prepares preliminary hearing paperwork for youth held and youth processed at Reception Center.Initiates new case via electronic filing. Determines case type. Uploads scanned documents and submits for processing in advance of preliminary hearing.Processes the release of youth from JIC by returning property and clothing and maintaining written record of same.Releases youth to designated persons determined by the Court, proper identification required.Receive, screen, and direct telephone calls and respond or direct questions from the public, internal and external agencies through the Receiving and Release department.Monitors the Sally port entrance and verifies that all service vehicles are authorized for admittance and/or deliveries.Mandated Reporter of abuse allegations.Deputized Clerk of the Franklin County Juvenile Court.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent; two (2) years clerical experience which includes direct public contact.
- Excellent communication skills; oral and written.
- Competence to review, interpret, and extract data and information.
- Strong attention to detail; meticulous data entry skills.
- Must maintain 70% data entry error rating per month.
- Intermediate skills with the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and other common software applications, and/or databases. Proven commitment and expertise to provide excellent customer service; positive and flexible.
- Ability to work in a team environment and maintain a professional disposition.
